Deepening collaboration between Canada and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) on areas of mutual interest such as climate action and gender equality, was on the agenda when Canada\u2019s Minister of International Development<\/strong>, Hon. Harjit S. Sajjan <\/strong>visited CDB on Monday.<\/p>\n

Minister Sajjan <\/strong>who is also Canada\u2019s Governor to CDB, framed the visit as an opportunity for both learning from and engagement with CDB officials.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy trip here is about learning \u2013 learning from all of you on what areas we can better work together on towards achieving the Sustainable development goals. It\u2019s no secret that Canada has a very strong approach [on gender] through our Feminist International Assistance Policy. I\u2019d love to hear from you on how we can work together to ensure all development initiatives also contribute to gender equality. We\u2019ve already seen a significant impact in the Caribbean and other parts of the world and hope to continue to work together in this area in a meaningful and tangible way<\/em>,\u201d said the Minister<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Minister Sajjan<\/strong> stressed the importance of the Canada-Caribbean relationship, noting:<\/p>\n

<\/a>\u201cThe Caribbean is very important to Canada because of its cultural, economic, historic, and social ties. I can assure you that everyone, from the Prime Minister, to all of my cabinet colleagues will remain committed to partnership with the region<\/em>,\u201d stated Minister Sajjan<\/strong> as he led off the bilateral meeting between his delegation and CDB\u2019s team.<\/p>\n

Canada and CDB have a long-standing partnership, as Canada was one of the founding members of the Bank back in 1970.<\/p>\n

CDB President<\/strong>, Dr Hyginus \u2018Gene\u2019 Leon<\/strong>, welcomed the opportunity for engagement with an enduring friend of the Region.<\/p>\n
