{"id":27071,"date":"2023-03-30T23:20:54","date_gmt":"2023-03-31T04:20:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projectcalls.com\/dev?p=27071"},"modified":"2023-03-30T21:24:43","modified_gmt":"2023-03-31T02:24:43","slug":"patterson-warns-that-guyana-could-face-increased-power-outages-if-gpl-does-not-address-challenges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projectcalls.com\/dev\/patterson-warns-that-guyana-could-face-increased-power-outages-if-gpl-does-not-address-challenges\/","title":{"rendered":"Patterson warns that Guyana could face increased power outages if GPL does not address challenges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Guyana<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now, there is a deficiency in power supply because nothing is working so for the next two years when they decide to bring the gas-to shore project, if we do not start to address these issues, every single day\u2014as we are having now we will be having power failure,\u201d Patterson predicted.<\/p>\n<p>Opposition Member of Parliament and Former Public Works Minister, David Patterson is of the view that the country will have to brace itself for daily power outages if the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) company does not fix some of its current challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Patterson said he believes the challenges currently facing GPL are well over fifteen in number, and range from faulty equipment to improper maintenence.<\/p>\n<p>During an AFC Press Conference today, Mr. Patterson said\u00a0 the bulk of GPL\u2019s issues is in its procurement processes.<\/p>\n<p>He accused the Government of purchasing substandard power generation equipment that cannot work beyond three months\u2014thereby creating a condition for the company to always be in need of new equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder the guise of public procurement, they started opening tenders for these things and go for the lowest bidder\u2014what we did was to go directly to the manufacturer of the best products.
