{"id":29721,"date":"2023-08-31T23:39:38","date_gmt":"2023-09-01T04:39:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projectcalls.com\/dev?p=29721"},"modified":"2023-08-31T21:41:56","modified_gmt":"2023-09-01T02:41:56","slug":"wilson-govt-working-on-complying-with-public-procurement-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projectcalls.com\/dev\/wilson-govt-working-on-complying-with-public-procurement-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Wilson: Govt \u2018working on\u2019 complying with Public Procurement Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bahamas<\/p>\n<p id=\"h293320-p4\" class=\"permalinkable\">FINANCIAL Secretary Simon Wilson could not say when the government would comply with the Public Procurement Act\u2019s requirement to disclose contract awards but said officials are working on doing so.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h293320-p5\" class=\"permalinkable\">The law requires government to disclose the name and address of winning bidders, the procuring entity, the procurement selection method and the award amount within 60 days of the contract award.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h293320-p6\" class=\"permalinkable\">Mr Wilson said in April that the government would fulfil this obligation when the reporting capacity of its procurement system is improved. He said information was being backfilled on the new Bonfire procurement portal.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h293320-p7\" class=\"permalinkable\">Asked for an update yesterday, he said: \u201cThat\u2019s a work in progress. So, we have made great strides. We have most agencies have their contracts reported. There are one or two ones which we think are critical to be included before we publish. So, we are waiting for those agencies to upload their last contracts awards, and once that\u2019s done, we\u2019ll be able to publish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"h293320-p8\" class=\"permalinkable\">Asked about the delay in complying with the law, Mr Wilson said: \u201cThe Act came into effect July 1st. This is the 24th. So, I don\u2019t know what\u2019s too long.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"h293320-p9\" class=\"permalinkable\">He said the government is committed to compliance.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h293320-p10\" class=\"permalinkable\">\u201cWe are doing more public procurement than ever before,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you go on our portal, you\u2019ll see many opportunities that were never there, so we do everything that we should be doing. It\u2019s always a work in progress. Yes, we can improve.
