Rowley fires back at Roodal<\/h2>\n

Prime Min\u00adis\u00adter Dr Kei\u00adth Row\u00adley says Op\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adtion MP Dr Roodal Mooni\u00adlal is the on\u00adly known min\u00adis\u00adter who was pho\u00adtographed while pro\u00admot\u00ading gang busi\u00adness.<\/p>\n

In a re\u00adlease yes\u00adter\u00adday, Row\u00adley fired back at Mooni\u00adlal, who ac\u00adcused the Gov\u00adern\u00adment of award\u00ading lu\u00adcra\u00adtive con\u00adtracts to gang lead\u00aders, not\u00ading this in turn was un\u00adder\u00admin\u00ading the po\u00adlice\u2019s war against crim\u00adi\u00adnal gangs.<\/p>\n

On Sun\u00adday, Mooni\u00adlal, the MP for Oropouche East, called on Row\u00adley to ter\u00admi\u00adnate con\u00adtracts with the gang lead\u00aders and take ac\u00adtion against any min\u00adis\u00adter who gave such con\u00adtracts. He said Row\u00adley con\u00adtin\u00adued to har\u00adbour se\u00adnior Gov\u00adern\u00adment Min\u00adis\u00adters with known links to peo\u00adple be\u00adfore the courts and oth\u00ader al\u00adleg\u00aded gang lead\u00aders.<\/p>\n

Re\u00adspond\u00ading to Mooni\u00adlal, Row\u00adley said the Gov\u00adern\u00adment has been and con\u00adtin\u00adues to fight crim\u00adi\u00adnal con\u00adduct at every lev\u00adel and will con\u00adtin\u00adue to sup\u00adport law en\u00adforce\u00adment in all their law\u00adful ef\u00adforts to rid the coun\u00adtry of this scourge in all its forms.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn re\u00adsponse to the scan\u00addalous be\u00adhav\u00adiour of the UNC, a par\u00adty that has yet again been caught re\u00adcruit\u00ading and pro\u00admot\u00ading crim\u00adi\u00adnals in the po\u00adlit\u00adi\u00adcal process, Dr Roodal Mooni\u00adlal ac\u00adcus\u00ades the Gov\u00adern\u00adment of award\u00ading lu\u00adcra\u00adtive con\u00adtracts to un\u00adsavoury char\u00adac\u00adters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis com\u00ading from Dr Mooni\u00adlal is laugh\u00adably hyp\u00ado\u00adcrit\u00adi\u00adcal, since he is the on\u00adly known min\u00adis\u00adter of any gov\u00adern\u00adment who used tax\u00adpay\u00aders\u2019 dol\u00adlars to pay a pho\u00adtog\u00adra\u00adph\u00ader to fol\u00adlow him around to pho\u00adto\u00adgraph and pro\u00admote him in these ac\u00adtiv\u00adi\u00adties and cur\u00adrent\u00adly is the on\u00adly pho\u00adto we have of any min\u00adis\u00adter pro\u00admot\u00ading that for which he now says is an ac\u00adtion which un\u00adder\u00admines the ef\u00adfort of the po\u00adlice. In 2013, Mooni\u00adlal, then hous\u00ading and ur\u00adban de\u00advel\u00adop\u00adment min\u00adis\u00adter, was pho\u00adtographed when shak\u00ading the hands of Ken\u00adneth \u201cSpan\u00adish\u201d Ro\u00addriguez dur\u00ading a vis\u00adit to the site of the Dun\u00adcan Street Po\u00adlice Post, then still un\u00adder con\u00adstruc\u00adtion. On Mon\u00adday, Ro\u00addriguez, dubbed a com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty leader, along with An\u00adcel \u201cChemist\u201d Vil\u00adlafana, ap\u00adpeared be\u00adfore Se\u00adnior Mag\u00adis\u00adtrate Cher\u00adril-Anne An\u00adtoine in the Port-of-Spain Mag\u00adis\u00adtrates\u2019 Court charged with mar\u00adi\u00adjua\u00adna pos\u00adses\u00adsion. They were picked up dur\u00ading the po\u00adlice\u2019s an\u00adti-gang op\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion last week.<\/p>\n

In his re\u00adsponse yes\u00adter\u00adday, Row\u00adley said con\u00adtracts are not award\u00aded by any min\u00adis\u00adters in his Gov\u00adern\u00adment. He said that prac\u00adtice was a fea\u00adture of the Peo\u00adple\u2019s Part\u00adner\u00adship and was a ma\u00adjor stim\u00adu\u00adlus to the ram\u00adpant cor\u00adrup\u00adtion that was the hall\u00admark of their 2010-2015 tenure. Dur\u00ading this pe\u00adri\u00adod, the PM said, min\u00adis\u00adters even col\u00adlect\u00aded the cheque pay\u00adments owed to con\u00adtrac\u00adtors, who then had to bar\u00adgain for the re\u00adlease of such funds.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr Mooni\u00adlal more than any\u00adone else knows that this Gov\u00adern\u00adment knows that. He al\u00adso speaks self-right\u00adeous\u00adly about the trou\u00adble\u00adsome is\u00adsue of pet\u00adty crim\u00adi\u00adnals get\u00adting Gov\u00adern\u00adment con\u00adtracts, but is ab\u00adsolute\u00adly silent on the pres\u00adence of crim\u00adi\u00adnals on the UNC po\u00adlit\u00adi\u00adcal plat\u00adform and in the Par\u00adlia\u00adment.\u201d<\/p>\n
