Dominican Republic

Two groups have won contracts worth a combined US$63.4mn to reinforce the Dominican Republic’s power transmission network.

The energy and mines ministry launched the tender last year to build six substations for state electricity distributor Edesur.

Consorcio Semi-Cobra (Sociedad Española de Montajes IndustrialesCobra Instalaciones y Servicios) secured the Arroyo Manzano (US$20.4mn), Cristo Rey (US$19.7mn) and Los Alcarrizos (US$20.7mn) projects.

Ingeniería y Servicios Electrotécnicos (Insel) was selected to develop the Cruce de Cabral substation (US$2.54mn).

No bids were submitted for the Jimaní project, while Pedernales was not awarded due to technical issues with the only proposal received.

The work is part of a US$155mn IDB-financed program to expand the country’s power distribution network and reduce technical losses.

A separate tender for circuits at five Edesur substations, also under the program, is underway.

Edesur is one of the country’s three power distributors, alongside state operators Edeeste and Edenorte. Its concession area covers 17,473km² in the southwest and serves around 936,000 customers.
